Look out in one direction and see nothing but water kissing sky, while in the other the outline of beach hotels, the Sunshine Skyway and Egmont Key’s lighthouse are in sight. Either anchored up bottom-fishing or trolling, it’s fish on with Captain Adam on the waters just off Tampa Bay’s beaches!
We’ll head out no more than 11-19 miles offshore, our location determined by weather conditions and if you’re looking to catch a specific fish. Popular destinations for nearshore fishing include Egmont Channel and some reefs and hard-bottom areas approximately 11-19 miles offshore. The farthest hard-bottom area we will go on a nearshore trip is 11-19 miles, with land just visible yet on the horizon.
Captain Adam wants to ensure you get what you’re going after, so if there’s a species you want to catch, contact him to see if it’s in season and if it’s possible to catch it via nearshore fishing rather than further offshore. Below are some examples of popular fish we catch nearshore fishing:
- Grouper: Season and limits change; currently open for red grouper, July 1st for gag grouper
- Kingfish (King Mackerel) and Spanish Mackerel: smaller size (3-8 lbs) running in schools during spring months (March – May) with an occasional big guy hookup; some occasional larger individuals running during summer months; larger (8-15 lbs) in fall months (Oct – Dec)
- Shark: Season is year-round; all varieties and sizes
- Snapper: year-round; larger species further offshore and more prolific spring–fall in warmer waters
Other fish we commonly catch include grunts, flounder, triggerfish, porgies and more!
